Rock of Orino (VA)

Rock of Orino (VA)

Historical
The Rock of urine is an ancient fortress on the north-east of the town, at an altitude of 537 m asl., on a spur rock that dominates much of Valcuvia.
It is assumed that the original fortified settlement dates back to the third century BC, but unfortunately at present there remains no trace of it visible.
The first documentary on the Rock of Orino are contained in the documents of the parish church of San Lorenzo in Cuvio and date back to March 1176, in a Charter finis et data "are among the underwriters a Soldanus Areas de urine" where "All" is definitely for "arce" in the sense of strength. In a "paper commutacionis" of 1222 are still a "Parravixinus de Arona" son of the late "Dominus de Maranus Roche de urine" and another document in the following year is appoint a "Emblavadus de Roche de urine", canon and brothers in the church of S. Lorenzo Cuvio between 1223 and 1236. Currently the examination of the walls of the fortress of Orino indicates a series of renovations and rebuilding almost certainly run in period Visconti-Sforza.

In 1513, following the gradual disintegration of the duchy of Milan, within the control of which the fortress and were Valcuvia including, "our lands" are occupied by Swiss troops.

The Fortress of urine, involved in these events, suffered numerous and repeated occupations and is probably in this period and as a result of these events, Rocca is dismantled.
In a document dating back to 1640 it is referred to as "Roca ruined the whole" and "Cadastre Theresian of the next century is called" Roca precipitous. " Restoration works were carried out at the beginning of this century by the then owner Mario Sangalli. Currently, the Rock of urine and properties of Ms Piera Vedani Mascioni that initiated a new cycle of work (still pending) designed to preserve and enhance what remains of the fortification.

between reality and legend
The Rock of urine is known locally as "Roca" Arian ", the legend says that the Aryans, driven by Bishop Ambrose of Milan, following the conviction of their doctrine of the Church, they had taken refuge on the hill that houses the town of Santa Maria del Monte.
According to legend, the Aryans occupied the fortress of urine and the garrisoned until the conquest of the "Forte di Varese" which took place in 389 AD by the Milanese troops. Local tradition has it that the Aryans were put to flight, as well as by the arrival of the army Ambrosian, the appearance of the figure of San Lorenzo wrapped in flames. The people, grateful, they named the site of San Lorenzo.
present in this town stands the small church of San Lorenzo with the adjoining cemetery in the town of urine.
but certainly the most famous legend is linked to the figure of Ada, the wife of Marchione, captain of mercenary troops in 1513 occupied the Swiss Valcuvia.
Rock of Orino (VA)

Legend has it that Marchione, with its allocated garrison at the fortress of urine, jealousy, fell into a deadly trap and imprisoned the young Ada in the dungeons of the castle Ada's brother, Francesco, his lieutenant. Later the same Marchione fell victim to a rebellion of his own mercenaries, who, threatened by the arrival of the English army, wanted to return to their lands. Francis, after the retreat of the Swiss, was abandoned in the dungeons of the fortress, condemned to die of hunger. It is said that his restless spirit is wandering since then, the bearer of evil omens, and the fortress in the woods, in the stories of the people .

Invariably, every year on completion of the solemn days of the Christmas, we think of the holiday season on the calendar. How many of us often pose the question: when is Carnival this year, or S. Easter or Corpus Christi, etc.. We are always a bit 'confused and most of the time without giving a precise answer.
In this regard, I am interested, I made a careful study Web and I finally found an effective tool to calculate and determine with certainty the dates of the main movable feasts of all years, as well as those of past and future.
Examples?
Click on the link;
Enter the year in the box and pressing the button on the button, an application will calculate for us and give us immediately the following dates;

Tuesday fat (last day of the Roman Carnival, preceding Ash Wednesday):
fat Saturday (last day of Carnival Ambrosiano, which precedes the first Sunday of Lent):
Easter
Ascension Thursday:
Pentecost
SS. Trinity
Thursday of Corpus Christi:
Sacred Heart of Jesus:

NB: The Ascension and the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) are currently in Italy celebrated the following Sunday, while the Feast of the Sacred Heart is not the day off.

I hope that this application is acceptable to all supporters of nonsolopiante and can find a utility group.

Castelbarco of Cislago

Visconti Castle Castelbarco - Cislago (VA)

Visconti Castle of Castelbarco Cislago (VA);
Cislago must have appeared to the Romans, which trace the origins of the country as a good stopping place along the road, starting from Milan and continuing parallel to the river Olona, reached the Alps .. The lands of
Cislago are mentioned in the sales contract by which they were sold around all'807, the Count Palatine Alchera. And 'the noble Alchera which shall strengthen the area with well equipped to build a castle with towers and located near major roads and intersections of roads.
Ripped ... after a long struggle, to Della Torre from Visconti, Cislago followed the fate of the noble and powerful family in Milan, passing through successive divisions of its feudal heritage.
Following the devastation the country suffered due to the passage of foreign armies fighting for dominance in Italy and in 1510 was sacked by the troops of Charles V, who razed the medieval castle. The reconstruction of the castle that we admire today were started from 1620 to the Marchese Cesare Visconti and continued under his son and grandson Theobald Caesar III.
Visconti Castle Castelbarco

This was the most intense period during which the ruins of the old castle an elegant building was reconstructed from the most suited to a country residence with the three bodies that close to the east the large main courtyard and portico with double columns, while the two towers to the west contain the massive facade that opens onto a private garden enclosed by a beautiful wrought iron gate of the eighteenth century opened the way main.

Linzertorte, una pasta frolla da incorniciare

The recipe here is from the first Google result for Linzertorte ... or, predictably, comes from where it should get there: the site of the city of Linz .
For the first of a series of replicas that have numerous, I strictly adhere to the official recipe, reaching the implementation of the detail of the almonds into strips on the edge (there sono stati momenti di grande lirismo culinario, in cui ho immaginato di essere un pasticcere austriaco, bisbetico e vanitoso che prepara Golem di pastafrolla che semineranno lo scompiglio per l'impero austro-ungarico :-D), ma dal momento che questa è reperibile sul sito, qui preferisco dare una piccola variazione in almeno due cose: primo, una leggera riduzione di zucchero; secondo, riduzione della dose di lievito, perché 10 gr risultano poi, secondo me, troppo evidenti nel gusto finale e in famiglia, un giudizio che dice: "sa di lievito" è un giudizio che suona come: "ce l'avevi quasi fatta!".
Il gusto della frolla in questa ricetta, è speciale e il trucchetto appreso su un libro di ricette provenzale di Roll out the dough on a cloth, the same way that you use for pasta strudel, and I must say, very good advice because that way you do not risk seeing the collapse of the disc of dough in the transfer from the plan to the mold. We know that the pastry should be handled a little while ago is that when the lies, someone in the past, advised me, as if I were to put a rattlesnake in a pan instead of a cake ... instead of spreading the ' the dough on a floured cloth facecnda to spend the dough into the pan any hint of chin dramatic
:-) I really like the Linzertorte the scent of cloves and vanilla and black currant jam, but I think I will try to use the base of the dough, even for other pies, perhaps flavored with different spices depending on the jam of your choice.
Linzertorte
150 g butter 250 g flour
120 g sugar 100 g roasted hazelnuts
and minced 1 egg 1 teaspoon
Yeast
400 g cranberries
Spices:
1 / 2 vanilla bean scraped
grated rind of 1 lemon
1 / 4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 / 3 cloves crushed
Work Cream butter and sugar, add the flour mixed with baking powder, nuts, egg and spices. Knead quickly all without "burning" the mixture.
Make the dough rest in a cool place for at least half an hour or more. After this time, retire from the refrigerator and separate the 2 / 3 of the dough to make the base. Roll out the dough if you like, using a floured cloth as a base to about 1.5 cm thick with a diameter of 22 cm, and then roll out the cranberries.
With the rest of the dough into strips and put them in the traditional form of the tart. Brush the surface with a bit of egg and cover the edge of thin slices of almonds. Bake for 40-45 minutes at about 190 °.

Visconti Castle Visconti Castle of Fagnano Olona (VA)

Ingresso Castello

Castello Visconteo di Fagnano Olona (VA);
Da notare che questa fortificazione is just the first of a series of laps around the river Olona.
Little is news about its origins, it seems, however, that the castle had already existed, just as a fortified place in Roman times.
Certainly we know that in 1257 became the property of Visconti of Milan, which marked the longest period in history.
Before that year the building had belonged to the lords of Seprio, which gave manforte to Barbarossa at the Battle of Legnano, "the May 29, 1176 against the communists and the Lombard League and emerged defeated.
Over the centuries the Visconti Castle fagnanese was used as a various functions and therefore was amended several times in its structure.

ditch Old

In '400 Filippo Maria Visconti he built the two towers, built two buildings and create a courtyard, the current first courtyard.
In the following century were built two other buildings and a second courtyard, the visible just across the moat. In the second half of 1500
Gaspare Visconti lords of Fontaneto or Fagnano, Archbishop of Milan, he wanted the old manor house became the second of his family. Today the castle
, which in recent years has been the subject of considerable restoration work, is the town hall and houses the municipal offices.
Castle Fagnano Olona is located on the ridge overlooking the river Olona and has always had an important strategic function.
Since the early Middle Ages, the Valley Olona was a natural way of penetration from the north to the plains of Milan, so it is naturally found along the valley a series of fortifications chance to watch the path beginning from Varese, falling to Castiglione Olona, Fagnano Castelseprio and precisely. The castle

In October of that year Viscount forces besieged the fortress of Castelseprio at that time held by Guido da Castiglione, a follower of the towers.
then abandoned the enterprise brought to Fagnano but we do not know if at that time the castle was damaged.
Seprio When finally passed into the hands of Visconti, Castle Fagnano was held by that branch of his family was called Visconti di Fagnano .
fagnanese The feud came to split into two distinct parts, one was assigned to the branch of John of Gasparo Visconti for which he formed the Lords of Fagnano branch che si estinse nel 1514.

Frescoes

same was confirmed in 1470 by Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza. In
diaries Cicco Simonetta ducal secretary, remembered a stay in 1474 by Galeazzo Maria Sforza Castle Fagnano during a hunt.
fact, the Duke at the end of October of that year after driving in Castiglione, Varese, Gallarate and around, spent the night of Oct. 31 at the Castle of Fagnano , "loco de Messer Filippo Visconti . In 1500 the castle was still fully efficient and sympathetic to the struggles that affected the Dukes of Gallarate, English and French troops.
Nel trasformato castello l’Arcivescovo Gaspare Visconti trascorreva i periodi estivi and took refuge here during the epidemic of 1587-88.
In 1674 the estate was held jointly by fagnanese Fontaneto Visconti and Visconti Borromeo.

Cortile del Castello

Located in the center of the country, on the left bank of the Olona, the castle still has its obvious massive fortified structures. Originally, the plan of the fort was quadrilateral, with four buildings around the courtyard and two corner towers.
This is the part that still exists on the north side the complex structure XV. Later, in the next century, we performed the works of extension attributed to Gaspare Visconti , thus doubling the area of the castle to the south, with the bodies and the second courtyard facing the country.
Today the castle presents so this dual structure. Towards
runs around the square where the dry moat, the main entrance which is accessed by a bridge over the ditch.
The portal frame with embossed baroque and two columns side by Sarizzo access to the first courtyard. Above runs a stylish balcony, while the sides are the buildings added to the end of 1500. The brickwork appearance of the new wings certainly softens the severe forms of the castle, giving it more the character of today's residential building that fort.

into the yard through a triportico fought with pillars divide the first and second courtyard and the subdivision meets the real separation between the new and the old fifteenth-century baroque. The second courtyard has traces of polychrome frescoes on the walls with coats of arms and decorative elements. Under the plaster peeling you can still read the evolution of the frames of the windows in the fifteenth century brick, with arched center and depressed center, now bricked up.

Cortile del Castello Visconti

On top north of the courtyard there is a snake Visconti coat of arms with the letters F and sides of R.
Including to the porch is a round with snake FM Visconti and the Gothic letters, perhaps the emblem of Filippo Maria Visconti who held the castle in the middle of the fifteenth century. Other
Stone Crest Visconti is on the portal that gives access to the stairs to the upper floors. Between the first and second courtyard on the north sides are the two original towers of the castle .
The left tower, down from the early edition was plastered. In the main facade
it has drawn up a window of a previous arc center. In the top frame runs a brick sawtooth, a typical feature of the structures Visconti. The
tower on the right is part of its structure in brick walls.
A decoration with typical sawtooth which is found in the castles of the Visconti Sforza plain runs along the median strip.
Above there are two windows on each side, arched, some walls.
The roof rests on the crown of battlements Ghibellines conclude that the top without transport. On the outside, south east of the building, you can clearly see the gap between the first and second body, which was added later.

Valentine

San Valentino

Come da tradizione , il 14 febbraio di ogni anno, not only in Italy but in all Anglo-Saxon countries, where the cult of the saint and of 'Love it was claimed, is the traditional day on which millions of lovers express their love, exchanging cards with affectionate phrases, chocolates, flowers and whatever.
This feast, ancient origins, was established after the death of Valentino , in 496, when Pope Gelasius I decided to replace the pagan festival, linked to the fields of purification and fertility rites, with an inspired message of 'love of popular opera Valentine .
Egli non solo rifiutò con determinazione, but tried to convert the Emperor himself, who took the strength of his faith, pardoned him and entrusted to a noble Roman family.
The daughter had lost sight of the noble but Valentino made a new miracle, with its pious entreaties and prayers, gave back the light. This extraordinary miracle, encouraged the family to convert to the Christian faith.
They continued the persecution of the Christians and Valentino was arrested for the second time under the rule of Emperor Aurelian, who succeeded the Gothic Claudius II, Roman soldiers carried him out of town for fear of a popular uprising in his own defense and scourged along the Via Flaminia.
died beheaded in the year 273 AD at the hands of a Roman soldier.
He suffered martyrdom for having united in marriage to a young Christian and a Roman legionary pay, in violation of the rules at that time that prevented the union a marriage of people with different religions.
His remains were buried in the hills of Terni, where the Basilica stands today and where they are stored. E ', considered the patron saint of lovers, as it is written on a statue in his city " Valentine patron saint of love."
